Derby Dry Mocktail
Crafted beverages aren't just for cocktails anymore. This alcohol-free drink is just as special as its alcoholic cousin—the classic Derby cocktail made with bourbon, vermouth, orange and lime. Whether you're skipping booze for the night, month or a lifetime, this mocktail recipe is worthy of a toast.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons cranberry juice
- 3 tablespoons grapefruit juice
- 1 tablespoon honey simple syrup (see Tip)
- 1½ teaspoons lemon juice
- Ice cubes
- 1 tablespoon ginger ale
- Orange twist for garnish
Preparation
- Combine cranberry juice, grapefruit juice, simple syrup and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice. Shake well. Strain into a martini glass. Top with ginger ale. Garnish with an orange twist.
- Tip: Heat ¼ cup each honey and water in a small saucepan until dissolved. Cool before using. Refrigerate remaining syrup for up to 1 week.
Nonalcoholic Strawberry Margaritas
A frozen virgin strawberry margarita is a refreshing way to cool down on warm days. This margarita mocktail, which calls for only five ingredients, uses a bit of agave nectar to blunt the tartness of lime juice and fresh strawberries.
Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) package frozen whole strawberries
- ½ cup water
- ¼ cup lime juice
- ¼ cup light blue agave nectar (see Tip)
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- Lime slices for garnish
Preparation
- Place strawberries, water, lime juice, agave nectar and salt in a blender. Pulse until loosened and chunky, about 10 pulses. Process on high until smooth, about 20 seconds. Pour into 4 glasses and garnish with lime slices, if desired.
- Tip: Light blue agave nectar can be found near other sweeteners in the grocery store.
Strawberry, Basil & Lime Infused Water
Meet your daily hydration goals with a refreshing fruity spa water. Adding sliced fruit and torn herbs is a simple way to boost the flavor of still or sparkling water without adding calories. It's also a beautiful beverage option for showers or parties.
Ingredients
- 8 cups filtered water
- 2 cups sliced strawberries
- 2 small limes, peel removed, sliced
- ½ cup packed fresh basil leaves, torn
Preparation
- Stir water, strawberries, limes and basil together in a large pitcher. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to blend flavors. Strain out solids, if desired.
- To make ahead: Refrigerate for up to 4 days. (If you don't finish your infused water by the end of the first day, strain out the solids and discard them.)
